University of California at San Francisco School of Dentistry first in California to teach LANAP® Protocol
The University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) School of Dentistry becomes the first university in California to formally adopt the LANAP® Protocol into its periodontology post graduate program.
CERRITOS, Calif., Jan. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — The University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) School of Dentistry becomes the first university in California to formally adopt the LANAP® Protocol into its periodontology post graduate program. In this partnership with The Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry (IALD) and Millennium Dental Technologies, Inc. (MDT), UCSF emphasizes the importance of teaching both traditional and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
“The LANAP® and LAPIP™ Protocols are evidence-based treatment methods at the forefront of periodontics, and an important skill set for any emerging periodontist to have,” stated Pinelopi Xenoudi, Director of Postdoctoral Periodontics at UCSF and an IALD Certified Instructor. “As a member of both the UCSF School of Dentistry and IALD communities, I am very excited to see both sides join forces to give our residents the ability to achieve regenerative results using a minimally invasive periodontal surgery patients accept.”
By integrating the LANAP® Protocol into the curriculum, UCSF ensures graduates can provide a full armamentarium of effective periodontal treatment modalities with optimal results, and graduate at the forefront of periodontics.
Only the PerioLase® MVP-7™ dental laser for the LANAP® Protocol has been awarded FDA clearance for True Periodontal Regeneration – regeneration of new cementum, new periodontal ligaments and new alveolar bone. The protocol is taught by Certified Instructors at the IALD via live patient, clinical, hands-on courses.
“A key factor for the consistent, positive results of the LANAP protocol is the standardized, live-patient training continuum,” remarks Dawn M. Gregg, DDS, CEO & Training Director for the IALD. “The training is unique in dentistry, as is our Instructor Candidacy program. All professors who teach the LANAP protocol are required to successfully complete rigorous IALD Instructor Training, ensuring every clinician who learns the LANAP® Protocol will know the proper techniques.”
UCSF’s addition of the LANAP® Protocol follows previous educational collaboration agreements with the University of Kentucky, Rutgers University, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Army in advancing the standard of care for treating periodontitis and peri-implantitis.
